Yesterday we took measurements of the new apartment. Today we brought a few things over, and I took some pictures of the place before the camera died. The battery no longer really holds a charge; just another thing I'm going to have to buy a new one of when I have the money.

Anyway, I got a few good pictures, so I figure I'll put them here and give you all a virtual tour of the apartment!

When you walk through the front door, you go straight into the living room, which is nice and spacious.

This is our fireplace, which isn't a functioning one, but it's still nice to have. I've always wanted to have a fireplace.

See that pile of pale stuff at the bottom of the fireplace? Those would be a small stack of local newspapers from 1922, which the landlady has given to us because we were overjoyed to hear that they were found under the floor of the bedroom.

Awesome, huh?!

This is the view from the living room windows. It looks right out over the river and the wooden area leading down to it. Daniel says that there's likely to be a path heading to the water, which we can find eventually.

This is the view from the bedroom door, which is just to the right of the living room. This is when I noticed that most of the rooms in this apartment were too large to photograph properly. Yeah. Nice size!

Those windows look out onto the street, which is fairly quiet and quite nice. They face east, which means we'll need thick curtains so that the dawn light doesn't wake up up far too early in the summer. Not so bad in the winter, so we've got some time before we really need them, though.

The sun room, which is right off the bedroom. Three windows, small but bright, and we expect the cats to love it. We certainly do!

The dresser we got for free, as it was leftover in the apartment and we figured we could use it. The landlady had no problem giving it to us. Otherwise it would just end up being another thing she had to try to get rid of.

On the other side of the bedroom there's another alcove with a large closet, but I don't think you all want to see that. :p

Back to the living room, and the door next to the bedroom leads to...

It was called a den in the ad, and this isn't a very good picture (the door was at too awkward an angle to get a good picture of the whole room; this is only about half of it), but we're planning to turn this into a craft room, where all our various craft and art supplies live. There'll probably also be enough room for a small bed, too, where one of us can go if we fancy sleeping alone (sickness, pain, that sort of thing).

The bathroom. It's larger than the one we've got now. The toilet's behind the door. Plenty of drawer and cabinet space around the sink and mirror, and not pictured is a linen closet where we can store towels and toilet paper and the like. We don't have anything like that here.

Next is the dining room. I'd like to say that this dining room is a good 10 feet long, more than enough room to fit our small dining table in. This dining room is about the size of our current kitchen and dining area put together.

The kitchen. Ignore the stove in the middle of the room; someone will be coming to take it away soon, we hope. Plenty of drawers and cupboard space, new fridge, second-hand stove but it still looks in good condition. Space and hookup for a washer and dryer. This is a kitchen that makes you want to cook in it!

And the view from the kitchen window? Is this:

Yeah, you can see why we're in love with this apartment.

And finally, there's our storage room.

This may not seem special, but really, it's one of the things that helped to seal the deal on this place. It's as large as our current living room, or there about, and will store everything we can't find a place for. It's also insulated well enough that in the warmer months, I'd feel comfortable going in there to sing without bothering anyone upstairs or downstairs, and that large table thing against the wall is perfect when when I want to work on tooling leather, which will require me to occasionally bang on things with a rubber mallet.

We have a back balcony, too, even if it's very small and a little rickety-looking. The outside wall has some vines growing up from the landlady's garden below, and there are still some berries on the vine that I can't identify, so I'll ask her about them when I next see her.

But the view from the balcony? Not too shabby either.

There you have it. Aside from getting pictures of every closet and cupboard, you now know what it's like inside our new apartment. Larger and nicer than what we've got right now, and we're only paying $60 a month more for it. Well worth it, in our opinion!

When everything's been moved out of this apartment, we're going to take measurements of each of the rooms here, too, to see just how much bigger the new place is compared to this place. Just because we're a little geeky that way.

Can't wait to see what it'll all look like with all our stuff in it! I expect more pictures will come then, if I can convince my camera to work long enough.

Yay apartment! It looks like a nice place, and I think it's wonderful that you have color on the walls instead of white-everything.
