sarasvatiIt's election time here again, and I actually just had a local candidate here at the apartment, asking if I wanted or needed to discuss any of the stuff in his campaign. I politely declined, explaining that I haven't followed the election stuff closely because I'm not actually eligible to vote (PRs don't get to vote, even if we live and work and pay taxes here), but I'd pass along the info to Rei when he wakes up.
Of all the elections I remember, this is the very first one in which I've even heard anything about one of the candidates going door-to-door himself. Normally there's just the influx of annoying signs along the roads, sometimes annoying telephone calls trying to convince you to vote for so-and-so. I guess since a lot more people are eco-conscious and in a mood to get back to their roots, going door-to-door is a good way to raise popularity, as well as getting people to know your face. Kinda shows that the guy's willing to do some work himself instead of letting everyone else do it for him.
And shortly after that I arranged to work some volunteer hours next weekend with the local Animal Rescue League. For once they're doing something on a Saturday on which I don't already have plans! It's nothing very strenuous, either. Sitting for 2 hours outside a store to try and collect some donations. I'm sure I can manage that, even if it's a Bad Lung Day!
But for now it's time to go for a walk and get some groceries, and to go with Rei to check his work schedule for the coming week, to make sure that boss people didn't screw it up. (Some seem to be of the opinion that Rei doesn't actually need the regular schedule that head office decreed that he should have for his chronic medical condition, and so try to slip in some irregular shifts sometimes.)
It's a grey and cloudy day. Hope it doesn't rain while we're out!
