I set a new record today, when it comes to walking. I managed around 7 miles, which is most certainly the most I've walked in any given day in quite a long time! I'm pretty proud of myself for that, especially since the air's been pretty cold lately, and the wind strong, so my lungs don't seem to want to work at full capacity right now.
Of course, some of the walking was unavoidable, as I had to walk back from Secret Place That I'll Elaborate On In A Day Or So. (Sorry to be secretive, but I'm not taking chances with it right now.) I could have waited for a bus, but I didn't know when the next one would come, and so figured it was easier to just walk the 3 miles I needed to get back to the nearest major bus stop. It was fun, though I wish I could find my iPod charger so I could have music for my walks again.
Rei and I watched How to Train Your Dragon tonight. Aside from the baffling Scottish accents on all the adult Vikings, it was a really fun movie. Fun visuals, good story, and an adorable freaking black dragon who acted like a large winged cat half the time. What's not to love?
Since I was out most of the day, I didn't get to do much cleaning, but I made sure I had some time to wash some dishes and clean out the fridge and take out the garbage. It wasn't much, but it was something.
Besides, I need to do more cleaning of the kitchen since I plan on doing a lot of baking before this weekend. Baking stuff's still cheap at the nearest grocery store, and dangit, I want apple pie!
I also promised Van an apple pie, which will give me a good excuse to visit him. Not that I really need one, but he's older than me, old enough that I wonder sometimes why he'd consider someone as young as me his friend. Then I remember, "Oh right, I'm actually an adult too. It's not weird for someone in their 30s to be friends with someone in their 20s."
I made sure that Van can eat the pie, too, since he's diabetic and has other dietary restrictions because of failing kidneys. Luckily he can, and Rei knows a good reduced-sugar apple pie recipe that I want to try, just to be on the safe side.
When I asked him about the pie, he also made a point of inviting me over for karaoke soon. Being out too much wears him out, he says, and so he's trying to do more stuff with friends in his own home, and so is setting up a home karaoke system for fun. A couple of mutual friends from our old job will be there too, whom I haven't seen in a while, so I'll be glad to head out for a night of singing and laughing at myself.
Then there's the tickets that Cass got Rei and I for Marco Polo (Cass has a part in this musical, and with gift tickets, we can actually go watch). And the NaNoWriMo kick-off party next week. And the small Samhain ritual that Rei and I are planning. It's almost like I actually have a social life or something.
I'm not counting my hospital appointment this week as a social experience. It gets me out of the apartment, but it's not something I can say that I enjoy doing on a regular basis. ("Oh goody, it's time for more testing!")
It's weird, though. I'm actually not used to this sort of thing. Normally it's just me, by myself or with one or two other people, spending my time relatively quietly. If I hang out with more than one person at a time, it's usually kind of an incidental thing, like we just all happened to be in the same place at the same time. I'm not used to people going, "Hey, wanna get together for a night of karaoke and laughs?" or "Going to come to this show that I'm in?" or "You're coming to the party, right?" And all in the same span of time!
Next month's going to have a lot in it too, but less of it involves other people. NaNo, of course, and my usual reading and reviewing, and halfway through the month I'm going to somebody's anniversary celebration. But even that's still more than I usually do with other people.
It's kind of sad, and yet oddly comforting, that I didn't gain much of a social life until my mid 20s. :p
