(no subject)
Jul. 15th, 2010 02:42 pmI'm really starting to suspect that my mother's dodging her debtors by giving them my phone number instead of her own. It started over a year ago when her bank (my bank also, really) started calling me looking for her. I told them repeatedly that she didn't live here, couldn't be reached at this number, and it wasn't until I threatened legal action against them that they gave up. They were calling here sometimes twice a day looking for her in regard to her debt.
My mother had assured me each and every time that she called them and got them to remove my number from her account. I had assurances from a supervisor that my number was removed. And things would be fine... for about a month or so. Then the calls would start again.
Now in this, I will give a tiny bit of leniency, since my mother and I have a joint bank account, which was only set up as joint in order for her to pass along money when I needed it. My name is the primary, and she has her own account with them, and so even if my name and phone number is on an account that also has her name, I'm sorry, but that's no excuse to keep hassling me. It does explain where they kept getting the number, but since it was my mother's credit card that wasn't being paid and not my bank account in overdraft, there's still no reason that they should decide, "Hey, this bank account has her name plus the name of another person, so let's call this other person!"
Yeah, the threat of legal action has shut them up for a good long while, though.
But now I'm starting to get calls for her again. From some collections company who's probably trying to contact her because of her bankrupcy stuff. Thing is, unless this company has ties to the bank my mother and I deal with, they have no way of getting my number unless my mother gave it to them or unless the bank fucked up yet again and started connecting me with her.
I'm emailing them, and I'm demanding that they stop calling me and that they tell me who gave them my number so I can follow up with that. If it was my mother, I'll tear a strip off her. If it was the bank, I'll tear a strip off them and possibly make good on that threat of legal action.
There is no excuse for this shit.
