Success!

I got Sage Tyrtle's permission to transcribe the QN podcasts. Most of the episodes are short, between 5 and 20 minutes, so transcribing even a few of them each day shouldn't be too difficult.

I emailed a few other podcasters for permission to transcribe their shows, too. Not too many, and most of them have fairly short episodes, so if they give me permission then I hopefully shouldn't be too swamped with work. But this should keep me busy, provide a little more access to entertainment for those who have hearing difficulties, and be something I can mention on resumes.

It's a shame that a lot of the more educational podcasts are run by such big organizations that it's pointless to approach them at the moment. I'd love to transcribe the episodes of the American Anthropology Association's podcast, but I doubt they'd give permission to somebody they've never heard of.

Still no luck on the employment front. Despite the issues with my hearing and the stress it causes, I'm still applying to call centres, because frankly, they're likely to be the only places that will even look at my resume by this point. Most places look at my resume and see it dominated by call centre experience, and likely assume that there's no point in calling me for an interview because I'm used to a higher rate of pay than they can offer. I think I'm stuck with call centres by this point, even if having to concentrate extra hard in a noisy and crowded environment raises my stress level. If it's not my hearing that gives me grief, it's my social anxiety.

But if I can force myself through it for another few years, I might be able to save up enough money to put myself through university, and come out the other side with a degree that can lead me to a much more suitable line of work.

Sometimes it feels like I'm chasing rainbows.
