Ugh, what a terrible night of no sleep. I napped yesterday afternoon, but I was tired from too little sleep the night before, and I didn't think that would mess up my sleeping last night as a consequence. As it was, I fell asleep and suffered through frustrating nightmares, temperature fluctuations, and a thirst so bad that it kept me awake for almost half an hour at one point. I spent most of the night tossing and turning, and I almost wonder now if I didn't have a fever or something, even though I feel fine now.

Fine being relative, of course. I'm exhausted but can't sleep, and I have a no-sleep headache to go along with that exhaustion. But I nearly always sleep that badly and in that way when I'm feverish. It's unlikely, but I'll keep an eye on my health over the next few days to make sure I'm not getting sick again.

Hopefully tonight will be better. And to make that more likely, I'll drink a cup of calming tea before bed. It's worked in the past to relieve stress and make sleeping easier for me, so it's good to keep on hand.

In the meantime, I just have to make it through the day. I'd nap later if I get tired, but for all I know that will just mean another terrible and frustrating night tonight. I'd rather try to keep myself awake for as long as possible, and then at least I should be able to exhaust myself into a deep sleep. Not the healthiest approach, but I do what I have to do. It beats napping for an hour and then barely sleeping at all for the second night in a row, after all.

If my headache would go away, I'll probably be able to get through today without too much difficulty.

I think I might spend part of today working with some old knitting patterns from Godey's Lady's Book. There are a few that wouldn't be too hard to translate into modern terms, and I've been tempted to do so to a few of them, knit them up, and then submit the pattern to Piecework magazine. Assuming, of course, somebody else hasn't already done so for the pattern or patterns I have in mind. It's possible, I suppose, but the book I got the pattern from is both out of print and pretty rare now, and even though one can find copies of Godey's Lady's Book at some libraries, they're not exactly common, so I may actually stand a chance.

Oh, the fun of being a total dork when it comes to historical needlework! I keep thinking that surely I must be the only one who's actually interested in this sort of thing, but then I remember that there's a magazine devoted to it, so obviously I'm not.
