It's been over a year since the weekend has actually meant much to me. It really just meant two days in which I got to sit around home, the way I did on the weekdays. Being unemployed does that to you, I guess.

Our last month's notice has been put in to our current landlord, the first month's rent has been paid to the new landlady. Things are all set for us to start moving things in as soon as we get the keys, which will hopefully be either today or tomorrow. I can't wait. We've done some cleaning up and packing already, but even that will be made much easier when we can start getting things out of the small space here and into the much larger space there.

Our landlord actually dropped by yesterday, according to Rei (who actually wishes to be called Daniel on this blog, which is what I'll be referring to him as from now on, so don't get too confused :p), and mentioned that he got our notice and asked if we wanted to make things easy on ourselves and move into another of his buildings. He said if we were looking for something fancier, he had an apartment that was renovated last year that was going for "only" $750 a month. Daniel said that we'd already found a place, and the landlord replied that he always gives people 10 days after handing in their notice to change their mind and stay.

How nice of the slumlord to offer that to us...

Honestly, one of the perks of moving elsewhere is that we won't have to deal with him anymore. He's a nice enough person, so long as you don't really need anything to stay in working condition. He's happier to repair than to maintain, which is why this building had so many pipes burst this past year. He leaves us alone for the most part, which is nice, but he`s also got that kind of negligent attitude that means he`s unconcerned if we have problems. (Like the time his repair people messed up the wiring in the walls and caused my computer to get hit by a power surge, and his recommendation was to call the power company instead of him even apologizing for the inconvenience. Which I could understand, if he hadn`t a moment before admitted that his repair guys messed with the wiring.)

Not to mention the fact that we can`t afford $750 a month anyway, and even if we could, the way he prices things, $750 a month would get us roughly what we`re now getting for $600 in the new apartment.

Today`s going to be fun, and I don`t mean that sarcastically. I`m going to bake some apple pieces, then meet up with Daniel so we can deliver one to TL and Van, hang out for a bit, possibly get the keys to the new apartment, then come home and do a little bit of cleaning before relaxing with some episodes of Magic Knight Rayearth. We're taking a little break from Ranma for now; 3 seasons in a row proved a little too much fluff for me to handle, especially when it's fluff that never changes. MKR may be fluffy, and old, but at least it's different.
