That's just keen.
May. 3rd, 2010 09:53 pmMy laptop had a wonderful virus on it. And by wonderful, I mean painful and bitchy. It's one of those that mimics whatever antivirus software is attached to Windows, and then blocks the opening of all applications by saying the .exe files are infected. Running the scan in safe mode did nothing but uncover some harmless Trojan. I did a system restore, and that seems to have fixed it, but I'm running multiple virus scans on my computer now to hopefully destroy the bugger if it's still lurking around.
And backing up important files on a flash drive just in case.
At worst, I'll have to wipe the system and reinstall the OS. The downside is that I can't find the reinstall discs, and hunting for them in this apartment may take a few days.
Also, it appears that all my files on this computer have mysteriously vanished. According to the hard drive, they're still there, but everything in My Documents has decided that it's Invisibility Cloaks for Files day and has gone into hiding.
Ugh. This isn't fun.
If I'm not around for a few days, or perhaps even longer, that's why.
[Edit] - Okay, apparently my files were hidden, because my lappy isn't very bright and assumed that when I previously told it I wanted to see all hidden files, I must want all the other files to be hidden instead.
And AVG has already found two Trojans still here, and if it can't remove them, it'll definitely be time to do a major hunt for those reinstall discs. Most things on here I can download again, thankfully, and as much as it will be a pain to do so, at least I can do so.
Fingers crossed!
